We live in a world where globalization and technology have given us nearly unrestricted access to the world, we have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people. As followers of Jesus, we are called to love our neighbors and share the Gospel with all those we meet. In this global marketplace, we have the opportunity to do just that, and become marketplace workers.
A global marketplace worker is a follower of Jesus who lives a missional lifestyle, demonstrating God’s love through their actions, attitudes, and words. They choose to carry out this mission in places where there are few, if any, Christians, and traditional missionaries may not have access. They go where God calls them and spread His message of love and hope to those who need it most. Global marketplace workers are self-sustaining, and work in jobs that allow them to gain entry into countries that restrict or prohibit traditional vocational missionaries. By forming natural relationships with colleagues, clients, customers, and neighbors, they can share the Gospel and build meaningful connections that last a lifetime.
As believers, we are called to be salt and light in the world, and marketplace workers are no exception. The world is in desperate need of the Gospel, and marketplace workers can make a significant impact. And three billion people having little to no access to the Gospel, this is our chance to change that. By filling the talent gap in sectors where the unreached and employers experiencing talent shortages intersect, we can make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
Marketplace worker opportunities are not limited to business. Nurses, teachers, engineers, farmers, and more are all needed. As believers, we have the chance to use our skills and talents to make a difference in the world and share God’s love in ways that only we can.
Organizations like Scatter Global, founded by OM, support the vision of seeing Jesus represented in every industry and every place. Scatter’s vision is to see men and women being deeply present, loving their neighbors, and doing good, holy, and redemptive work in communities around the world. They affirm the original, God-given role of every believer as an image-bearer and disciple-maker within their places of work and influence.
As believers, we have the chance to make a difference in the world by becoming global marketplace workers. By spreading God’s message of love and hope through our work, we can build meaningful connections with people from all walks of life and make a difference in the world that lasts a lifetime. Let us be salt and light in the world, and bring hope to those who need it most.
