Honduras’ people are a nation suffering great poverty. Violent gang culture with organized crime and drug cartels has powerfully influenced society. Honduras also has 60% of Central America’s AIDS cases.  High rates of disease and low educational achievement mean there is much that can be done through showing God’s love in practical ways.

Although there are a large number of followers of Jesus in Honduras, the challenges of living authentically in the current climate offer opportunities for practical service amongst poorer communities.

Officially, there is religious freedom in the country.  Figures state that over 90% of the nation are Christian, historically mainly Roman Catholic, with thousands yet to hear the Good News of Jesus for the first time. Pastors receive minimal incomes to be able to give adequate pastoral care. Young followers of Jesus need discipling in a deep personal relationship with God to reach out to others who do not yet know Him as visible expressions of God’s love.

Come to the capital city, Tegucigalpa, teeming with one and a half million relational people. The majority language is Spanish, with English also used, so you will be able to converse with English speakers or use your Spanish!
