Moldovans are known as a spiritually open people with rich traditions but most have no understanding at all of the gospel

Moldova is the most densely populated of the former Soviet countries. It is home to a diverse population and the Moldovan people are mostly Orthodox. Although few attend church and many have never heard the gospel, the Moldovans are considered spiritually open. Evangelical churches are growing despite occasional persecution and increasing poverty. 

OM’s involvement in Moldova started with smuggling Bibles and Christian literature into the country during the era of the Soviet Union. More focused outreaches began in 1995 and developed into a variety of ministries in different areas. 

Today ministry is focused on outreach & church planting in the lesser-reached regions of Moldova, as well as mobilizing and equipping believers for local and global mission:

• Reaching the Least Reached: Many areas in Moldova still lack a community of Jesus followers. The ministry partners with local church planters and encourages established churches to send workers to these regions.
• Local Ministry & Church Planting: Support is provided through resources, training and encouragement. Local Ministry Teams live in communities to assist church planters from the ground up.
• Outreach Resources: Practical projects—like providing meals, firewood, clothing and children’s programs—meet physical needs and open doors for gospel outreach.
• Mobilizing Believers: The ministry raises awareness of global mission needs, especially within the Moldovan Church, encouraging prayer, sending and support of missionaries.
• Short-Term Outreaches: Opportunities for Moldovan and international believers to engage in mission work, both locally and cross-culturally, often in Moldova’s least-reached areas.
• Equipping & Training: Programs like REACH offer discipleship, mentoring and hands-on outreach. Additional training tools are tailored to Moldovan believers, from new Christians to pastors.
