The church in northern Serbia has deep historical roots and is home to many congregations filled with families. However, a growing number of young people are disengaging from church life and even leaving the country altogether. In contrast, the church in southern Serbia is smaller and more scattered, with only a few churches in various cities. Encouragingly, a revival is taking place among the Roma people, though these churches often remain isolated and disconnected from the broader Christian community. Serbian Orthodoxy continues to be a dominant spiritual force across the country.

The Evangelical Alliance of Serbia is working to unite churches and Christian organizations around a shared vision. Yet, across the nation, very few churches are actively sending out mission workers.

In 2012, OM began building relationships with churches across Serbia, laying the groundwork for a long-term presence. By the end of 2014, OM partnered with a Roma church in Leskovac, supporting a local NGO and providing literature in the Roma language. When the refugee crisis escalated in 2015, OM responded by serving in cities like Horgoš, Subotica, Šid, and Belgrade—offering food, shelter, sanitation and clothing in partnership with other Christian organizations. A long-term ministry was established in Šid, where local believers now lead efforts to serve over 1,000 refugees with both practical help and the love of Christ.
