Sweden is known as one of the most secularized countries in the world, yet thousands of Swedes have served in missions. 

Sweden ranks highly in education, quality of life and health when compared to other nations. However, the church is becoming smaller and more marginalized. The role of religion has changed a lot during the last decade. Influence by post-modernism and immigrants from all over the world have had an impact on the society over the past 50 years. 

Most Swedes have very little knowledge about Christianity although many claim to believe in a “higher power.” There is a growing awareness amongst major denominations of the need to see church plants started. Along with others, the OM team in Sweden seeks to change the trajectory so that Sweden once again can be a leading nation in sending out missionaries to the ends of the earth.  

Sweden has become one of Europe’s most diverse nations, with over 100,000 immigrants arriving each year. Today, nearly 2 out of 10 people in Sweden were born outside the country, and close to 1 million identify as Muslim. This growing diversity has opened many new doors for gospel outreach.

OM in Sweden is actively engaged in church planting and evangelism among immigrant communities—especially in cities like Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, and Jönköping. Our teams live and serve in neighborhoods where few others go, partnering with local churches and denominations to share the love of Christ through discipleship and church planting.

Most of our ministries focus on reaching people from non-Christian backgrounds, but we also hope to launch a team focused on rural Swedes influenced by New Age beliefs.

We also have a unique ministry among Somalis—reaching out both within Sweden and beyond, while equipping and empowering Somali believers to grow and lead.
